Read-out of the Secretary-General's meetings with H.E. Mr. Danilo Turk, President of Republic of Slovenia;
H.E. Mr. Janez Jansa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia;
and H.E. Mr. Gregor Virant, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia

The Secretary-General met today with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Mr. Danilo Turk; the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Mr. Janez Jansa; and the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Mr. Gregor Virant.

During their meetings, they discussed the regional situation, including the significant transition of the countries of the former Yugoslavia from war to peace and the active and growing contribution of Slovenia and of the other countries of the region to UN efforts around the world. The Secretary-General underscored that the UN deeply appreciates Slovenia's commitment to the UN, especially in times of economic challenge.

They also exchanged views on the worrying situation in Syria and the future of UNSMIS.

The Secretary-General and the President agreed that it remained of high importance to strengthen the UN's capacity in preventive action, mediation and sustainable development.
