VIENNA, 10 October (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine, Salah H. Abdel-Shafi, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.
During his career, Mr. Abdel-Shafi has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador and Head of the Palestinian Mission to Germany (2010-2013); Ambassador and the Palestinian General Delegate and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Representative to Sweden (2006-2010); Senior Partner and consultant, Emerge Consulting Group, the Gaza Strip (2005-2006); Director General, Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (2002-2005); Director of Gaza Office/Deputy Director General, Palestine Trade Centre (Paltrade) (1999-2001); Director General, Development Resource Centre (1996-1999); Private Sector Programme Manager, USAID West Bank and Gaza Mission (1994-1996); Director of the Gaza Office, Economic Development Group (1990-1994); Loan Officer, Welfare Association, Gaza (1990); University of Economic Sciences, Karlshorst, Berlin (1988-1990).
Mr. Abdel-Shafi holds a Bachelor and a Master Degree in Economics from the University of Economic Sciences in Berlin, Germany. He speaks Arabic, English and German.
Mr. Abdel-Shafi is married and has two children.
