New Permanent Representative of El Salvador presents credentials

VIENNA, 2 October (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of El Salvadorto the United Nations (Vienna), Carmen María Gallardo Hernández, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Yury Fedotov.

During her career, Ms. Gallardo Hernández has served in various capacities, among them: Councillor, Municipality of San Salvador (2012-2014); International Cooperation Coordinator of the Supreme Court of El Salvador (2003); Writer and Columnist of La Prensa Gráfica and El Diario Hoy, El Salvador (1993-2004); Executive Director of the Foundation for Peace (FUNDPAZ) El Salvador (1994-1996); Freelance Parliamentarian Interpreter in multilateral organizations (1973-1980); Assistant to Executive Director of the Commerce and Industry of El Salvador (1973-1974) .

During her career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Gallardo Hernández has represented the Government as the Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations in New York (2004-2010); Ambassador to France and Portugal (1993-1994); Permanent Delegate and Ambassador to UNESCO, Paris (1992-1994).

Ms. Gallardo Hernández holds a Master's degree in Simultaneous Interpretation from the University of Geneva, a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology from the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City and a French Baccalauréat in Arts.

She speaks Spanish, French, English, Italian and German.

Ms. Gallardo Hernández is married and has two children.
