Press briefing for the launch of UNODC's World Wildlife Crime Report to be held on the margins of 25th Session of the UN Crime Commission

The press briefing will be held on Tuesday, 24 May at 15:10 hrs.

Media are invited to attend the 25th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) from 23 to 27 May 2016.

VIENNA, 18 May (UN Information Service) - The CCPCJ regularly attracts up to 1,000 participants representing member states, civil society, academia and international organizations.

Around 50 side events will be held during the CCPCJ on subjects ranging from girls fleeing war, terrorism, catastrophes and the perils of flight: risks of exposure to death and crime, to the global threat of trafficking in cultural property-crime prevention and criminal justice responses.

Other side events cover: cybercrime, pre-trial detention, the nexus between organized crime and terrorism, and violent extremism, among many others.

A side event about HIV in prisons, public health and human rights will be held on Wednesday, 25 May from 14:20 to 15:10 hrs in conference room M7. The event will cover topics like prison health in Africa and the work of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in this field; and country experiences around HIV in prisons, particularly within the context of the Nelson Mandela Rules about the minimum rules for treatment of prisoners, and the Bangkok Rules for the treatment of women prisoners and non-custodial measures for women offenders.

In addition to the above mentioned events, the Opening Session, all plenary sessions, as well as side events are open to the media.
