VIENNA, 5 May (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) - As part of this year's Vienna Energy Forum (VEF), a photography exhibition by Simon van Hal titled "Stages of Refugees' Journeys"will open at the Vienna International Centre on 9 May at 13:00 at Conference Room 1 (C Building, 2 nd floor).

It will be linked to the VEF side event titled "Clean Energy for Migrants and Vulnerable groups", which will examine the linkages between energy, development and migration.

For more information on the side event, please visit: https://www.viennaenergyforum.org/content/clean-energy-migrants-and-vulnerable-groups

Opening remarks will be given by Nermin Ismail, an Austrian multimedia journalist working for ORF. She has produced feature stories to help readers understand the stories and fate of her interviewees.

Photographer Simon van Hal portrayed refugees and captured the stages of their journeys in pictures. Together, they travel with people who have left their homelands and are looking for a new life.

The exhibition puts a human face and gives refugees a voice. It follows people leaving Syria, across Greece and the various border checkpoints to their destinations in Austria and Germany.

Photographs were taken, among other places, in Izmir, a hub for human smugglers and the people who need their services, the Greek coastline, at a railway station in Hungary, at the Slovene border and in shelters.
