VIENNA, 17 June (United Nations Information Service) - On the margins of the 62 nd session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Permanent Mission of the United States of America to the International Organisations in Vienna are hosting a side event on Space for Women/Women in Space.

At the event, former NASA astronaut Sandy Magnus will share her exciting experiences in space. After her presentation, representatives from UNOOSA and the delegations of Brazil and Israel will give short addresses about their efforts to promote inclusiveness in the space sector.

At the event, UNOOSA will also provide updates on the progess of its Space4Women project, realized through the generous contribution of the Government of Israel. The project helps communicate and facilitate access to opportunities in the space sector, and in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) sectors more widely, for girls and women. In particular, the project promotes a global "Space4Women Champions" network, linking young women with positive female role models who can advise and guide them throughout their career journey from education to jobs in STEM sectors. This project contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 (quality education) and SDG 5 (gender equality).
