New Permanent Representative of Portugal presents credentials

VIENNA, 27 April (UN Information Service) – The Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations (Vienna), Miguel Maria Simões Coelho de Almeida e Sousa, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.

During his career, Mr. de Almeida e Sousa, who is also Ambassador to Austria, has served in various capacities, among them:

Ambassador to Ireland (2017-2022); Ambassador to Isreael (2012-2017); Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2007); Deputy Director General for Multilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2005-2006); Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2004-2005); Minister Counsellor, Embassy in Rome (1999-2004); Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for European Affairs (1997-1999); Head of the European Union Internal Bilateral Affairs Department (1995-1997); Diplomatic Attaché at the Prime Minister’s Office (1994); Second Secretary, Embassy in Brussels (1989-1994).  

Mr. de Almeida e Sousa holds a law degree from the University of Lisbon.

He is fluent in English, French, Italian and Portuguese.
