VIENNA, 29 March (UN Information Service) – With the deposit of the instrument of ratification at the UN Headquarters in New York, Uruguay becomes the eleventh State Party to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, also known as the "Singapore Convention on Mediation". The ratification by Uruguay was on 28 March 2023, and the Convention will enter into force for Uruguay on 28 September 2023.
The deposit of the instrument took place during the forty-fifth session of UNCITRAL Working Group III on Investor-State Dispute Settlement Reform.
The Singapore Convention on Mediation facilitates international trade and promotes mediation as an alternative and effective method of resolving commercial disputes by providing an effective mechanism for the enforcement of international settlement agreements resulting from mediation.
The Convention is open for signature, ratification, and accession by States and regional economic integration organizations. In total, fifty-five States have signed the Convention since it opened for signature on 7 August 2019. Up-to-date information on the Convention and its status is available on the UNCITRAL website: uncitral.un.org.

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) is the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. Its mandate is to remove legal obstacles to international trade by progressively modernizing and harmonizing trade law. VIENNA, 29 de marzo (UN Information Service) – Con el depósito del instrumento de ratificación en la Sede de las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York, Uruguay se convierte en el undécimo Estado Parte de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Acuerdos de Transacción Internacionales Resultantes de la Mediación, también conocida como la “Convención de Singapur sobre Mediación”. Uruguay ratificó la Convención el 28 de marzo de 2023, la cual entrará en vigor en Uruguay el 28 de septiembre de 2023.
El depósito del instrumento tuvo lugar durante el 45º período de sesiones del Grupo de Trabajo III de la CNUDMI: Reforma del Sistema de Solución de Controversias entre Inversionistas y Estados.
La Convención de Singapur sobre Mediación facilita el comercio internacional y promueve la mediación como método alternativo y eficaz para resolver controversias comerciales, proporcionando un mecanismo eficiente para ejecutar acuerdos de transacción resultantes de la mediación.
La Convención está abierta a la firma, ratificación y adhesión de los Estados y las organizaciones internacionales de integración económica. En total, cincuenta y cinco Estados han firmado la Convención desde que se abrió a la firma el 7 de agosto de 2019. La Comisión de las Naciones Unidas para el Derecho Mercantil Internacional (CNUDMI) es el órgano jurídico central del sistema de las Naciones Unidas en la esfera del derecho mercantil internacional. Su mandato es eliminar los obstáculos jurídicos al comercio internacional modernizando y armonizando progresivamente el derecho mercantil.
