VIENNA, 10 January (UN Information Service) – With the deposit of the instrument of ratification at the UN Headquarters in New York, Israel becomes the fifteenth State Party to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, also known as the "Singapore Convention on Mediation". The ratification by Israel was effected on 8 January 2025, and the Convention will enter into force for Israel on 8 July 2025. In ratifying the Convention, Israel made a reservation in accordance with article 8(1)(b) of the Convention.
The Singapore Convention on Mediation facilitates international trade and promotes mediation as an alternative and effective method of resolving commercial disputes by providing a harmonized legal framework for the right to invoke international settlement agreements resulting from mediation as well as for their enforcement.
The Convention is open for signature, ratification, acceptance, approval or accession by States and regional economic integration organizations. In total, fifty-seven States have signed the Convention since it opened for signature on 7 August 2019. Barbados signed and deposited its instrument of ratification for the United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships (the “Beijing Convention on the Judicial Sale of Ships”) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 8 May 2025.
