VIENNA, 30 November – The university students came from a wide array of study fields ‒ including History, International Relations, Environmental Studies, Communication Science, Human Rights, Economics, Computer Science, Security Studies, Linguistics, Law, Anthropology, Political Science, International Development and Engineering – and studied in various countries including Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Czechia, Georgia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Türkiye and Ukraine.
A high number of UN experts from 10 Vienna-based UN organizations and entities joined the programme and shared experiences about their work and career opportunities in a one-hour virtual online session held with the students. The following UN organizations and entities participated this year:
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office in Austria, United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR),United Nations Liaison Office for Peace and Security in Vienna (UNLOPS Vienna), IOM Vienna Regional Office
The programme concluded with a virtual UN Careers workshop held by UNIS Vienna Director Martin Nesirky, at which the students had the possibility to gain valuable insights into career opportunities at the UN for young graduates, like the Junior Professional Officer Programme (JPO) and the Young Professionals Programme (YPP), and learned more about the work of the UN in Vienna and other duty stations. There was also an opportunity for the students to ask questions about UN careers.
