Vienna, 9 April 2025 – The “Long Night of Companies” kicked off at the historic Vienna City Hall. There, motivated students and recent graduates were given the opportunity to explore the well-frequented Q&A area and visit various information stands hosted by a wide range of companies, organizations and institutions.
At the information stand of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, representatives spoke to many people about career opportunities within the United Nations system, including the different professional areas covered and the United Nations' organizational framework. UNIS representatives also explained about how to apply for positions and where to look for internships and other career opportunities.
After the kick-off event and with more than 50 participants on the bus, shuttle line 21 headed off to the Vienna International Centre (VIC), the first stop during this long Night of Companies.
After they arrived at one of the many conference rooms at the VIC, students were given an introductory presentation about the work of the UN in Vienna and around the world by Anne Thomas, Public Information Officer at UNIS Vienna. Birgit Strobl and Iryna Zhugan from the Human Resources Management Service of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) gave a presentation on early career opportunities.
Lastly, Stefanie Weniger, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Austria spoke about how the Network works with companies for corporate sustainability. Students had the chance to ask questions on the application process, the required qualifications and possible entry-level positions.
“Today was a highlight, and I am happy I got a chance to participate as the tickets for the shuttle were booked out very quickly. The insights I gained today have motivated and helped me a lot to navigate through all the available information,” summarized one of the participants before hopping back on line 21.
