VIENNA, 19 May (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations (Vienna), Ian David Grainge Biggs, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Biggs has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador for Arms Control and Counter-Proliferation (present position); Deputy Head of Mission, Australian High Commission, New Delhi (2021); Assistant Secretary, Afghanistan and Regional Branch, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2019-2021); Acting First Assistant Secretary, South and West Asia Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2019-2020); Head of Mission, Embassy in Tehran (2016-2019); Assistant Secretary, Strategic Issues and Intelligence Branch, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2014-2016); Head of Mission, Embassy in Ankara (2011-2014); Assistant Secretary, Integration Task Force, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2014); Head of Secretariat, International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2008-2010); Assistant Secretary, Arms Control and Counter-Proliferation Branch, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2008); Head of Mission, Embassy in Riyadh (2005-2008); Special Assistant to the Director General, International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna (2002-2004) and Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy in Vienna (1998-2001).
Mr. Biggs holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Australian National University.
