Slovakia is seeking new initiatives to eliminate violence against women

An experts workshop to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November), was held on 27 November 2013 in the premises of the Vice Governor's palace in Bratislava.

The workshop, attended by dozens of Slovak and international experts as well as representatives of NGOs, was divided in two main parts: formation of an environment for the elimination of violence against women and strategies for the elimination of violence against women, followed by discussions. An expert from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) based in nearby Vienna, was one of the keynote speakers, presenting the work of UNODC to fight violence against women, the support at country level and successful practices in prevention of violence.

The workshop was prepared by the Slovak Government Office, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family and Norway Funds, in cooperation with United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna.
