VIENNA, 14 June 2016 - "Finally I know the first steps to take for a possible career with the United Nations!" - this was the reaction from one of the many inquisitive students dropping by the United Nations information stand at the UNI SUCCESS Careers Fair 2016 which took place on 14 June 2016 at the University of Vienna.
More than 4,000 students and young graduates and over 70 exhibitors and partners joined the fair which was organised by UNIPORT, the career service of the University of Vienna.
At the highly frequented information stand of the United Nations young people had the chance to speak with representatives of eight different Vienna-based organizations, including the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In addition, UNIS Vienna Director Martin Nesirky held two career workshops to give detailed insights into the different career possibilities available within the United Nations. Nesirky also took the time to answer individual questions from the participants who showed a great interest in learning more about the options for young people, the requirements for different job vacancies as well as wanting advice about the online application process.
Looking at the high number of excited students who were interested in the UN stand and attended the lectures, the UNI SUCCESS Careers Fair definitely proved to be worthy of its name. It was a great opportunity for the United Nations to reach young people and provide information about the organization and the different career opportunities.
