The United Nations at the UNI SUCCESS Career's Fair 2017

VIENNA, 13 June 2017 - A high number of students dropped by to talk to one of the representatives from the United Nations to find out about UN job opportunities, at the UNI SUCCESS Careers Fair 2017 at the University of Vienna. "I am really thankful for this opportunity, because it gave me the courage I needed to apply for an internship with the UN," said a young student after her visit to the information stand.

More than 4,000 students and young graduates came to learn about different career opportunities with the 60-plus exhibitors and partners including the United Nations who were at the fair, organised by UNIPORT, the career service of the University of Vienna. The United Nations information stand offered detailed information on what the UN in Vienna does, and how to best to apply for a job. The students had the chance to speak to representatives of eight different Vienna-based organizations, including the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV),  the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),  the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The UN information stand proved to be a great success, with a high number of students eager to get information on the UN and its organisations.

The career workshop, held by UNIS Vienna Director Martin Nesirky who gave detailed insights into the different career possibilities available within the UN, was also very well attended with an audience of 116. Nesirky also took the time to answer individual questions from participants who showed a great interest in learning more about the options for young people, the requirements for different job vacancies as well as wanting advice about the online application process.

Looking at the high number of excited students who were interested in the UN stand and attended the lectures, it was a great opportunity for the United Nations to reach young people and provide information on UN careers.
