Huge interest in the work of the United Nations at the UNI SUCCESS Career's Fair 2018

VIENNA, 5 June 2018 - "It is my dream to work for the United Nations one day," said one of the many students at the career fair. The UN's stand at the UNI SUCCESS Career Fair 2018 at the University of Vienna attracted many young people who took the opportunity to get in contact with representatives of several Vienna-based UN organizations to learn first-hand about employment opportunities there. As in previous years, the stand was one of the most popular at the event.

More than 4,000 students and young graduates came to learn about different career opportunities with the 60-plus exhibitors and partners including the United Nations who were at the fair, organized by UNIPORT, the career service of the University of Vienna. The United Nations information stand offered detailed information on what the UN in Vienna has to offer, and how best to apply for a job. The students had the chance to speak to representatives of seven different Vienna-based organizations, including the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV),  the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The UN information stand proved to be a great success, with a high number of students eager to get information on the UN and its organizations.

More than 130 students listened to the career presentation by UNIS Vienna Director Martin Nesirky who gave detailed insights into the different career possibilities available within the UN. Mr. Nesirky also took the time to answer individual questions from participants who showed a great interest in learning more about the options for young people, the requirements for different job vacancies as well as wanting advice about the online application process.

Looking at the high number of excited students who were interested in the UN stand and attended the lectures, it was a great opportunity for the United Nations to reach young people and provide information on UN careers. After her visit to the information booth, one of the visitors expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to speak directly with UN staff and said: "At first I was not sure if I was the right person to apply for an internship at the UN but now I feel more confident and will hopefully be doing an internship at the United Nations one day."
