VIENNA, 9 May (UN Information Service) – Journalists are invited to cover the 34th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) to be held from 19 to 23 May in Vienna, Austria.
The 34th session will be chaired by Ambassador José Antonio Zabalgoitia Trejo, Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations in Vienna and will be opened by the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Ghada Waly, and other high-level speakers.
The 34th session will bring together participants from Member States, UN entities, inter-governmental organizations and civil society in Vienna.
The thematic discussion this year will focus on “Addressing new, emerging and evolving forms of crime, including crimes that affect the environment, smuggling of commercial goods and trafficking in cultural property and other crimes targeting cultural property”. Resolutions under consideration by the Commission address the following topics:
More than 127 side events and 25 exhibitions will take place during the 34th session covering key issues in crime prevention and criminal justice.
Media are invited to attend the launch of the "Crimes That Affect the Environment: Mining-Related Crimes Study" on Tuesday, 20 May, from 13:00 – 14:00 (CEST) in Room M6.

All plenary meetings of the 34th session will be webcast on United Nations Web TV and posted on UN Journal.
Journalists are also invited to follow side events throughout the week.
Member States will make transcriptions and statements available to journalists at their own discretion.
