VIENNA, 29 August (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations (Vienna), Helga Hauksdóttir, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During her career, Ms. Hauksdóttir has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador, Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, also accredited to Australia, Bulgaria (until December 2022), Romania (until December 2022), Türkiye (2019-present); Director General, Directorate for Legal and Executive Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Reykjavík (2016-2019); Director of Human Resources, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2009-2016); Counsellor, Department for International Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2007-2009); Counsellor, Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden (2005-2007); Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Iceland to the United Nations, New York (2002-2005); First Secretary, Office of the Legal Adviser, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2001-2002); First Secretary, Defence Department, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (1998-2001); Acting District Commissioner, Office of the District Commissioner in the Westman Islands, Iceland (1998); and Deputy, Office of the District Commissioner in the Westman Islands, Iceland (1994-1998).
Ms. Hauksdóttir holds a degree in law from the University of Iceland, Reykjavík.
She speaks Danish, English, Icelandic and Swedish.
Ms. Hauksdóttir is married and has one daughter.
