VIENNA, 16 April (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations (Vienna), Reza Najafi, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Najafi has served in various capacities, among them:
Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2024–2025); Deputy Minister for International and Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021–2024); Director General for International Peace and Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2018–2021); Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna (2013–2018); Deputy Director General for International Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2012–2013); Director for Disarmament and International Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006–2012); First Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations in New York (2002–2006); Expert, Department of Disarmament and International Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999–2002); Disarmament Expert and Alternate Permanent Representative of Iran to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), The Hague, Netherlands (1996–1999); and Expert, Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) National Authority, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993–1996).
Mr. Najafi holds a Ph.D. in International Law a Master of Arts in Political Science both from the University of Tehran.
