UNIS Vienna, in close collaboration with the Austrian radio station ORF-Ö-1, in the course of 2004/2005 prepared a series of audio features on the Millennium Development Goals and on the International Year of Microcredit 2005 which were aired within the popular German language radio-college transmission of ORF-Ö-1. On the initiative of UNIS Vienna, these features were then compiled and designed for a print edition under the title "Paths to a Just World". The book was launched on 21 December with the help of the Eco-social Forum Austria at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.
The book, the content of which UNIS Vienna has contributed to, contains interviews with and statements by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan; the President of the Eco-social Forum Europe, Franz Fischler; Chairperson of the non-governmental organisation ATTAC Austria, Karin Küblböck, the initiator of the Global Marshall Plan, Franz Josef Radermacher; the founder of the alternative Nobel award, Jakob von Uexkuell; Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker of Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Energy and Environment, and others. Among interview partners also Christian Strohmann of UNIS Vienna is mentioned.
This printed "radio-college" was presented together with the latest edition of the Global Marshall Plan Initiative publication "Hope Europe", which supports the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
The launch event featured a round table talk chaired by the author Johannes Kaup of ORF during which a lively discussion on the post 2005 UN world summit evolved reaching from MDGs to world trade policies to human rights and streamlined working methods of the United Nations Security Council. About 200 representatives of governmental institutions, academia, NGOs and other civil society organisations as well as media attended the book launch.
