VIENNA, 17 March 2016 - The United Nations in Vienna joined more than 30 employers in opening their doors and inviting students and alumni from all universities in Austria today to get to know them at a "Long Night of Companies" in Vienna.
The innovative event for job seekers was organized by UNIPORT, the Career Service of the University of Vienna, as well as the ZBP Career Centre of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, and supported by the City of Vienna, UN Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, Accenture, BDO Austria and Hofer.
Students and alumni had a chance to learn more about the inner workings of 32 major companies and organizations located in and around Vienna, and what it takes to get a job there. UNIS Vienna participated along with major companies such as Bank Austria and the Austrian Federal Railways (OeBB).
The event kicked off in the afternoon at Vienna City Hall where various tables were set up and participants could inform themselves about jobs and receive career advice. There was a constant flow of interested participants at the UNIS stand, and the UNIS representatives were kept busy with questions and inquiries.
At a podium discussion panellists outlined the "aha!" moment in their careers - epiphanies or moments of clarity within their professional development. Katharina Goetze represented UNIS Vienna and spoke of her career path and role as Associative Public Information Officer at UNIS.
To get an even deeper insight into the work of each company or organization, participants then had the opportunity to visit two of them by registering in advance fora shuttle bus route that took them to both locations to learn more about each potential employer.
The UNIS route, which was shared with Doctors Without Borders, was fully booked and about 50 interested participants arrived at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) from City Hall.
After a guided tour, the students and young graduates were briefed by UNIS Vienna Deputy to the Director Anne Thomas and UNOV Human Resources Officer Gerhard Tripp about career opportunities at the United Nations.
The long night concluded with after-event clubbing at Café Leopold.
