UN Vienna engaging with young job seekers at university career fair

Many students and young graduates were eager to find out how to join the United Nations at the Career Calling Fair organized by the University of Economics Vienna (WU) at the MESSE Wien.

VIENNA, 11 October 2023 – The careers fair gave visitors the chance to speak to representatives of various organizations, learn about job opportunities and how to build a career with different organizations. At the United Nations information stand colleagues from various Vienna-based UN offices and organizations were on hand to give advice to the students. Representatives from the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office in Vienna, the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), answered questions, explained where to find current job openings and gave advice on how to apply.

Students from different academic backgrounds came to the stand, driven by an enthusiasm to work for the United Nations. There were many students who were enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes with a major in Business Management. Many were keen to find out about short-term vacancies, such as internships at the UN in Vienna, and some were interested in embarking on a long-term career within the organization.

In addition to the information stand at the careers fair, UNIS Vienna Director Martin Nesirky held an online workshop on the work of the United Nations in Vienna and abroad and UN careers, followed by a lively discussion and lots of questions by the more than fifty students and young graduates attending the session. The passion of the younger generation inspired all UN colleagues who engaged with the visitors, both at the information booth and during the online workshop.
