NEW YORK, 29 September (UN Headquarters) -- The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan: The Secretary-General is seriously concerned about the recent outbreak of violence in Jerusalem and other areas. He regrets the loss of life and calls on both sides to exercise maximum restraint. The recent incidents demonstrate more than ever that it is essential to continue the negotiations to reach a final peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. |
