UNIS/MA/333
21 November 2023
VIENNA/DUBAI, 21 November (UN Information Service) – From 30 November to 12 December 2023, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will take part in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
COP28 will be a milestone moment when the world will take stock of its progress on the Paris Agreement. The first Global Stocktake (GST) will provide a comprehensive assessment of progress since adopting the Paris Agreement and will help align efforts on climate action, including putting measures in place to bridge gaps in progress.
UNODC is leading the narrative on crimes that affect the environment, which contribute to the triple planetary crisis of biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change.
UNODC’s engagement at COP28 will focus on three areas:
• Climate mitigation
• Nature, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation
• Pollution and promoting a circular economy
A full list of UNODC’s twelve side events is available online.
UNODC will also exhibit its work and stand ready for questions at exhibition booth 24 from 8 to 9 December 2023.

"Together, we can make 2025 a new beginning. Not as a world divided. But as nations united. " — António Guterres
The UN Convention against Cybercrime aims to prevent and combat cybercrime more efficiently and effectively, including by strengthening international cooperation and by providing technical assistance and capacity-building support, particularly for developing countries.
I welcome the landmark adoption of a new international convention on cybercrime by the United Nations General Assembly. This remarkable step represents the first UN international legal instrument on crime-related issues in over 20 years, and it comes at exactly the right time.
"On this International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, I call on countries to heed the lessons of past health emergencies to help prepare for the next." — António Guterres
