Journalists invited to cover the 33rd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

VIENNA, 8 May (UN Information Service) – Journalists are invited to cover the 33rd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) which will be held from 13 to 17 May in Vienna, Austria.

The 33rd Session will bring together participants from Member States, UN entities, inter-governmental organizations, and civil society in Vienna and online.

The opening on the first day of the session will include remarks by:

  • Dennis Francis, President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (Video message);
  • Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC);

The thematic discussion this year will focus on international cooperation in criminal matters. For further information, please consult the Thematic Discussion Guide.

Resolutions under consideration by the Commission address the following topics:

  • Countering trafficking in people in the digital age
  • Follow-up to the Fourteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and preparations for the Fifteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
  • Treatment of children associated with terrorist groups
  • Reducing reoffending through rehabilitation and reintegration
  • Preventing and countering violence against children in contexts of insecurity

Taking the Profits out of Crime: Accelerating the Effective Implementation of Anti- Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Standards Globally

The joint UNODC, INTERPOL, and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) event will discuss how to best target illicit profits generated by transnational organized crime that facilitate conflicts, fund terrorism, and negatively impact vulnerable populations.

Launch of the World Wildlife Crime Report

Monday, 13 May at 1300 hrs Vienna time / Room BR-A

The Report examines the latest trends in wildlife trafficking, finding that it has not been substantially reduced in two decades, and assesses the causes and implications of the crime.

Launch of Global Analysis of Crimes that Affect the Environment, Part 1: The Landscape of Criminalization

Friday, 17 May at 1400 hrs Vienna time / Room M2

The first part of the first-ever Analysis examines how acts that harm the environment are being criminalized across the globe, a crucial part of battling the triple planetary crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution.
