VIENNA, 18 December (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations (Vienna), Andrew Williams, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Williams, who is also Ambassador-Designate to Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia, has served in various capacities among them:
Lead Negotiator, Pandemic Preparedness Prevention and Response (2023-2024); Advocate, Co-Agent and Counsel for New Zealand in Ukraine vs. Russia at the International Court of Justice (2023-2024); Chief International Legal Adviser (Acting) (2022-2023); Special Project Lead - Establishment of New Zealand sanctions system, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2022); Unit Manager, Legal Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2019-2022); Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Justice (2018); Principal Adviser, Constitutional and Human Rights, Ministry of Justice (2017); Senior Adviser for National Security Policy, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (2015-2017); Special Investigator, Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security (2014); Senior Legal Adviser, Legal Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2013); Counsel for New Zealand, Australia vs Japan at the International Court of Justice (2013); Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan (2011-2013); Legal Adviser, Legal Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2007-2010).
Mr. Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
