VIENNA, 30 June (UN Information Service) – The new Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations (Vienna), Dayani Mendis, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Monica Juma.
During her career, Ms. Mendis has served in various capacities, among them:
Director General, United Nations and Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2024–present); Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Geneva (2019–2024); Director, United Nations and Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2019); Director, South Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2018–2019); Deputy Chief of Mission/Deputy Permanent Representative, Embassy/Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Vienna (2016–2018); Director, Counter Terrorism Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015–2016); Director, Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2013); Director, Europe, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2011–2016), Minister Counselor, Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra, Australia (2007–2011); Deputy Director, Office of the Foreign Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2005–2007); Second Secretary (Political), Embassy in Washington D.C. United States; and Assistant Director, United Nations, Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000–2001).
Ms. Mendis holds a master’s degree in international politics from the School of International Service, American University in Washington D.C., United States and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Colombo.
She speaks English and Sinhala.
